Red Pepper is a daily tabloid newspaper in Uganda that began publication on 19 June 2001 but later in 2017 it was sealed off on the orders of President Museveni.

In a press statement released by Red Pepper directors following the Tuesday meeting with President Museveni at State House Entebbe, president Museveni ordered the reopening warned the directors and editors to avoid reckless reporting that led to their closure.

“During the meeting, the President warned the directors and editors to stop being reckless and become more professional in the course of their reporting,” Arinaitwe Rugyendo one of the directors stated in a statement released on Wednesday morning.

“He promised to immediately order the police to vacate the Red Pepper head office at Namanve and return all confiscated electronic equipment to the staff”, he added.

Red Pepper premises were sealed off, directors and editors arrested for publishing a story titled, “Museveni plans to overthrow Kagame” in November last year.
