The TCRA, Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority, has announced a ban on 2 of Diamond Platnumz‘s songs. The government body claims they are against the country’s norms and values.
TCRA announced the ban on Wednesday after receiving a list of 13 songs from the National Arts Council of Tanzania. Many other Tanzanian artistes fell victim of this exercise and many have went on to react strongly to this act. Hit songs ‘Waka Waka‘, and ‘Hallelujah‘ (featuring Morgan Heritage) are the two songs of Diamond that were shortlisted and later banned. The body put to notice that the banned songs have lyrics which violate ethics of regulations of broadcasting services (Content) 2015.

This policy was put to effect after President John Magufuli complained about obscenity in most music videos done by Tanzanian artistes last December. The President who enjoyed wild popularity on assuming office in 2015, has come under sharp criticism over some of his policies and this is yet another one that is likely to cause a stir especially among the population largely filled with youths.
