Singer Jose Chameleone, real names Joseph Mayanja, went on to stand his ground about his support for the ruling political party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM). He campaigned for NRM in the Jinja by-elections.

In the build up for the 2016 presidential campaigns, Chameleone led a group of fellow artistes to rally behind the NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. They even composed a song together, singing about the good things Museveni has done for Uganda as a nation in the past many years he has been president. The song titled ‘Tubonga Nawe‘ was the theme song at all Museveni’s campaigns and the artiste involved performed allover the country, wherever the NRM candidate went for campaigns.

This however was not properly perceived by a section of Chameleone’s fans who belong to the opposition political parties. Many claimed that he was doing it for the money, while others were overly furious about why the singer would get involved in partisan politics saying it would affect his brand as an artiste.
Chameleone however gave a deaf ear and has actually come out to make his stand point known by consistently performing at most NRM political rallies.

Just yesterday (Tuesday 13th March), Chameleone went public again to campaign for NRM in the Jinja by-elections. He perfromed for the crowds awaiting to be addressed by the NRM entourage consisting of HE President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM candidate Nathan Nabeeta. He held out Nabeeta’s hands to the big crowds and sang most of his catchy hits in support of the NRM candidate. He chanted political slogans and urged the masses to vote for the NRM candidate. He said;

“I don’t mind what others think and say but I am here to ask you to vote NRM and Nathan Nabeta in particular.”

Several other artistes have attended the rally and entertained the voters including Catherine Kusasira, Spice Diana, Gravity, Big Eye, Fred Sebatta, Nwagi, Teacher Mpamire (Mendo), among several others coordinated by Balam Marketing Agency.
