Jose Chameleone has come out finally to express his discontent with the way government has constantly failed to fulfill the promises that were made to him during the ‘Tubonga Naawe‘ project. The displeased singer exposes the disloyal government.
Two weeks ago, Jose Chameleone’s eldest son Abba Marcus Mayanja participated in the CANA Zone IV Swimming Championships in Lilongwe, Malawi and he won four medals for his exceptional swimming skills. Abba, who has for long studied off his talent at all the schools he has been to, was welcomed by his family and congratulatory messages from fans on social media.

Abba’s father however, Jose Chameleone, was quick to point out how his son’s talents have been underrated and undervalued by the sports fraternity and the Ugandan government as a whole. The successful legendary singer posted a congratulatory message to his son on all his social media platforms and the one that caught our eye in particular was his tweet on Twitter in which he mentioned the president HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Minister of Education and Sports, who also doubles as the first lady of Uganda, Janet Kataha Museveni.
Chameleone tweeted;
Kaguta Museveni and Janet Museveni, young medalist Abba Marcus Mayanja with 4 Medals for Uganda from Malawi | CANA Africa Swimming Championships. Of the 7 Uganda brought, he brought 4! #BasiimaOgenze

He added another tweet that gained massive reactions with many fans replying with congratulatory tweets, and one fan was keen to note that;
The government should put Abba on a life education scholarship. Such talent should be appreciated right from the grassroots. Go harder Abba Champion.
To which Jose Chameleone replied;
They promised but never fulfilled!!!
Thanks Abba Marcus for making Uganda proud with 4 Medals. You are a great swimmer and the time is now. Go harder on them. #CHAMPION🇺🇬 🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬 pic.twitter.com/Lmngs6LH4h

It should be noted that Jose Chameleone was among the very many artistes that campaigned for President Yoweri Museveni during the 2015 presidential campaigns and they played a very significant role in the ruling party’s road to victory in the 2016 General Elections.

The artistes that took part in the ‘Tubonga Naawe’ project had a chance to meet President Museveni and he had a personal chat with each of them. In the things discussed during these private chats, Museveni asked if the artistes had anything they wanted the government to do for them. Most artistes asked for monetary requirements, others cared enough to put forward the issues concerning the copyright law in Uganda’s entertainment industry.

Jose Chameleone however demanded that his family be taken care of. He requested that his children’s education is fully sponsored and that their talent is prioritized and sponsored for, so that they can represent Uganda as a nation in their respective fields of talent. To this, the singer received affirmative responses from the different representatives of the government and a few promises were made towards fulfilling his fatherly requests.
It is two years now, and nothing has been done. The promises made are still as empty as they were on the day they were made. This must be the reason for Jose Chameleone’s rants in the tweets, and he claims nothing was rightfully fulfilled as it had earlier been promised. He still takes care of his son’s funding whenever he has to participate in foreign swimming competitions beyond the borders, and yet when he wins the medals, the state is quick to claim them as ‘Uganda’s medals’.

The singer might not be ready to have a personal battle with the people who made these empty promises to him as yet, and that is the reason he will still show up when called upon at NRM campaigns, just to show solidarity and loyalty. But he is very displeased with their unfulfilled promises especially that they were made unselfishly to help nurture his children’s talents, and he is not afraid to expose it all, bit by bit.

We feel for you Jose, and we pray your concerns are addressed. Congratulations again to Abba Marcus Mayanja, we wish you the very best in your endeavors.
