Diamond Platnumz has been asked to stop wearing cross necklaces by his Muslim fans. The fans claim that Diamond is a Moslem who should uphold Muslim values rather than exposing the Christian crucifix hanging around his neck all the time.

Diamond Platnumz’s problems seem to be piling up, each after another, this year. The ‘Hallelujah’ singer is by religion, a Muslim. The Muslim community covers about 35% of Tanzania’s population, and majority of his fans around East Africa are Muslim.

His fans have now turned their guns against their own superstar for religious reasons this time. They claim Diamond is gradually embracing cultures that could compromise his Muslim religious beliefs and practices. One of the most pointed out is his excessive love for necklaces and bling with the cross on them.

In a couple of music videos and photo-shoots, the ‘Waka’ singer has usually had a cross necklace or two around his neck. This, according to the Muslim community, is wrong and Diamond’s fans are out to strongly condemn it. They claim that is not part of them, and soon might be tempted to disregard Diamond and his music as well.

In defence, Diamond says his bling and the necklaces that his fans term as cross necklaces are not specifically the Christian type and to him they are just a plus sign which should not bother anyone. He believes people should not frustrate his sense of style and that the plus sign he wears is an insistent mark that he personally finds no problem in.

What can we say? Maybe fans are just being too much.
