If you are a Bongo movies fan, you must know the popular actress Elizabeth Michael commonly known as ‘Lulu’. The 23 year old award-winning actress was released from prison on Saturday 12th May after serving six months of her 2 years jail sentence for causing the death of fellow actor Stephen Kanumba.
Elizabeth Michael was found guilty of manslaughter on November 13th 2017 and the Dar es Salaam High Court sentenced her to two years in prison for causing the death of Steven Kanumba, a fellow Tanzanian actor and lover.

Following an argument over a phone call she had received, Elizabeth Michael pushed away Kanumba who slid and fell, hitting the back of his head on the floor. He died moments later. A detective who arrested Lulu Michael on the fateful day, Ester Zephania, told the court that walls of the room, where the actor died, had black blood-like stains.
Elizabeth Michael was sentenced to two years in prison by High Court judge Sam Rumanyika in November last year for manslaughter but her lawyer, Peter Kibatala, requested the court to pardon the bongo movie actress because she committed the crime when she was still young.
The actress had initially chosen not to appeal the sentence but her lawyers, with the permission of her family, eventually appealed the judgement and the sentence was changed allowing her to serve the remaining term outside prison as community service since she is the breadwinner of her family, and had shown good behavior while in prison.
Lucas Mboje, Tanzania’s MCL prisons department spokesperson said Lulu Michael will spend the remaining period of her sentence (18 months) out of prison. Speaking to media, Mboje said;
She was released from prison last Saturday, May 12 at 8am. This doesn’t mean that Lulu Michael is a free person now; she will continue to serve her sentence, though out of prison; it is what we call, in professional terms, community service.
