The Goodlyfe crew has never been at rest since the departure of fallen singer Mowzey Radio who died on February 1st 2018. Chagga Geoffrey is now the latest crew member to add to the many controversies surrounding the music crew with the manager being sent to Luwero prison for six months over failure to pay UGX 19M.
Chagga, real names Kyagambidwa Geoffrey, is a strong pillar in the Ugandan music industry, one of the major players in the generation that revolutionized Ugandan music from the Congolese dominance. The former Leone Island Music Empire singer has been part of the Goodlyfe crew ever since it was formed after breaking away from Jose Chameleone’s music camp.
Chagga’s relationship with Weasel however has never been a smooth one, and it is reported that it is Mowzey Radio who had kept him in the Goodlyfe all this long. Ever since Radio’s death, Chagga has been at the center of most wrangles within the camp until now that he has been sent to the coolers.
The reason for Chagga’s imprisonment is quite absurd. Chagga was paid UGX 19 million by promoters who wanted Weasel to perform at a concert in Luwero. Weasel did not turn up on the day of the concert and neither was Chagga anywhere to be seen. When he was contacted he made it clear to the promoters that the money had already been used and there is no way he would refund it.
It is for the above reason that the veteran manager was arrested and is currently being held at Butuntumula prison in Luwero distrcit where he is set to stay for the rest of the year.
On hearing the news, fellow musicians immediately started the #SaveChagga campaign in efforts of having the veteran musician and manager out of prison as soon as possible.
