Ugandan musician turned politician, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine is slowly re-branding Ugandan politics to suit the youths interests. The Kyadondo East MP, in support of Justice Forum party president Asuman Basalirwa’s parliamentary campaigns, has re-branded his car with powerful slogans.

When Bobi Wine joined the parliament, we surely knew there were a few things he was bound to change. His influence in music is part of what revolutionized Ugandan music from the dominance of Lingala music back in the 90s together with Jose Chameleone and Bebe Cool, among other artistes. He is now looking forward to having the same influence on politics and he seems to be on the right track so far.

From the time of campaigns for the Kyadondo East constituency seat, Bobi Wine has always appeared in a different image from what other politicians portray. From the way he dresses, speaks, interacts with the crowds and fellow politicians, to how he has now re-branded his car in support for Asuman Basalirwa are all things Ugandan politics has not experienced many times.

Counsel Asuman Basalirwa joined the parliamentary race for newly created Bugiri Municipality in Eastern Uganda where he is battling it out against other prominent politicians representing other political parties. This will not be Basalirwa’s first time to contest for a parliamentary seat in the district. In 2016, he vied for the post in Bukoli North Constituency, although he lost.

With the support of Bobi Wine however, in addition to fellow politicians like Mathisa Mpuuga and Erias Lukwago, the counsel is confident he will clinch a win in the forthcoming elections.

Bobi Wine’s youthful approach to politics seems to be the way he has won many hearts onto his side and we can only anticipate bigger things for the Fire Base CEO.
