The Ugandan Government has confirmed its efforts to block the popularized Nyege Nyege festival from happening this year.

This comes after Minister Lokodo decided to ask the Internal Affairs Minister, the Inspector General of Police and other state stakeholders to block the fete from happening due to its supposed “connection with homosexuality and evil spirits”.

Furthermore, while appearing in Parliament, the Prime Minister Rukahana Rugunda confirmed that the State has commenced investigations into Nyege Nyege and promised to provide a comprehensive report as soon as possible.

Several MPs echoed their voices against the festival. Former Ethics Minister Hon. Nsaba Buturo said over 4,000 homosexuals will congregate in Jinja at the Nyege Nyege festival and hence asked the parliament to immediately intervene in the matter.

The event is/was set to happen from the 6th to the 9th of September at Nile Discovery Hotel in Jinja. We shall keep you updated on the matter.
