The good news flipping in is that the much anticipated MTN Nyege Nyege festival has been cleared to go on as earlier scheduled.

According to the Uganda Media Center Executive Director Ofwono Opondo, the event should proceed on as planned. This comes after a meeting chaired by the Internal Affairs Minister Jeje Odongo, government and the organisers of the famous MTN Nyege Nyege festival.

Nyege Nyege revellers

Since Monday, the Ethic and Integrity Minister Fr Simon Lokodo had threatened to stop the event from taking place as he tried to cancel it out on several occasions noting that it promotes live sex, drug abuse and homosexuality. Thus he even called for an immediate meeting that could see the event cancelled.

I urge the Internal Affairs Minister Jeje Odong to instruct the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to stop the event. I propose for a meeting between me , Jeje Odong and IGP to discuss the issues further because Nyege Nyege compromises the national integrity of the nation and puts citizen at risk of sexual immorality.

It was from this meeting that after hearing from Fr Lokodo’s side of view and the organisers argument, the government gave the organisers a go ahead to hold their event this weekend.

Nyege Nyege which started in 2015, is a four-day International music festival in East Africa. It is going to take place at Nile Discovery Jinja.
