My name is J-Wats by the way…”, you must have already heard that line drop a couple of times on your favorite radios stations. We profile the impeccably talented young man behind all that magic.

Born Watsaba Jude, J-Wats is a Ugandan recording and performing artist. The rapper was born on 13th December 1995 in Jinja, Uganda. He describes his music style as ‘The Translation’. It fuses the local language (Luganda) with English to create a unique flow.

His passion for music started at a very young age and only graduated into a career at the age of 16. He is also a producer. He has worked on songs like Holding The Light, Fancy, Man Of The Year, Down On Me featuring The Mith, Buli Kiro with Play 01, Proud, One Of A Kind featuring DJ Ciza, among many others.

The Future Is Bright: J-Wats

J-Wats had a successful 2017 that saw him scoop a double nomination in the “Rookie of The Year” and “Song Of The Year” categories in the much hyped Uganda Hip-hop Awards. His inaugural hit song Man Of The Year seems to be prophetic in many ways as he looks forward to bettering his art with each breath the he takes.

He picks inspiration from Cassper Nyovest, M.I Abaga, Ryan Leslie, Ruyonga, and his attitude is visibly perfect for a Hip-hop star on the rise – humble yet zealous for the future ahead of him.

J-Wats released his debut album dubbed “ON MY OWN” on 18th May 2018. It comprises of 16 tracks and features over ten artists from across the continent (no typo).

The album is richly diverse containing urban sound with different genres describing J-Wats’ versatility. A career so far so good and only anticipating better days ahead, he is the man to watch!
