Yes, you heard that right. Legendary Ugandan musician Richard Kaweesa is demanding Shs5bn from president Museveni over copyright for his song ‘Another Rap’.
Richard Kaweesa is the celebrated artiste is the mastermind behind very many mega music projects and his influence on the Ugandan music industry is immense.
Kaweesa has addressed a notice through his lawyers, Muwema and Company Advocates and Solicitors, to the President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni over remuneration for the copyright of the Another Rap song.
The Another Rap song, also known as Mpenkoni, was such a strong pillar in president Museveni’s 2011 presidential campaign.
The singer demands compensation to the tune of UGX 5 Billion for using the song in the campaigns. Richard alleges that the song belongs to him and he still demands the money which was supposed to be payment for copyright.
He is also not happy with the president and his team who keep earning the credit whenever the song is played instead of crediting the producers behind the masterpiece.
The notice serves indicates that Kaweesa and a team of co-producers that were behind the production of this song deserve to be adequately compensated with the money.
