Ugandan musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, is in a race for the African Personality of the year award in the Africa News awards.
Bobi Wine is up against the Ebola responders from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Paul Kagame for his work as 2018 President of the African Union, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The awards look forward to recognizing a person or an institution that has impacted the news over the course of the past twelve months.
The awarding ceremony will be held on 1st January 2019 at a yet to be revealed venue.
