A woman activist known as Primrose Nyonyozi Murungi has petitioned government to call off the newly launched “Miss Uganda Curvy” contest which was unveiled by Minster For Tourism, Godfrey Kiwanda.
In her statement, Ms Murungi pointed out that the fresh pageant is aimed at objectifying women in the society.
It’s 2019 ladies and gentlemen. And a whole board of tourism sat down, discussed and decided to actually pass something like this. Those were men and women with daughters at home. Those were gentlemen married to “curvy” women and dating them. Those were men and women with “curvy” sisters, mothers and friends who sat and actually passed this.Murungi began.
Murungi made the statements after Mr Kiwanda made remarks that Uganda has naturally endowed women who are amazingly good to look at.
He even added that most beauty pageants always appreciated slender and pretty faced women, leaving out plus sized females. Hence, the Miss Curvy seeks to appreciate beauty in diversity.
