Local songstress Maureen Nantume joins the long list of Ugandan celebrities who have lost their hugely followed social media accounts to money-minded hackers.

On Saturday afternoon, Maureen Nantume’s Instagram account – with over 107k followers – was hacked into by unknown people.

The hacker, who left a number to call in case the owner wanted to retrieve her account, demanded over USD300 to give her the rights of ownership again.

After consultations, it is believed that the hacker who picked up the phone call is a renown Ugandan who has made a reputation of hacking into celebrities’ social media pages.

The Golden Band singer is now considering opening up a new account because she believes the hackers are money makers who are likely to do the same thing in a few months even if she pays them now.

She alerted her fans about the incident and will be letting them know about the new account she is soon opening up.

Nantume joins the long list of Ugandan celebrities whose social media accounts have been hacked including Zari Hassan, Jose Chameleone, Maro, Desire Luzinda, Fille, Judith Heard, Anne Kansiime, Nana Weber, DJ Aludah, among others.
