Mammoth crowds filled up streets in Arua on Sunday as Kyadondo East MP Kyagulanyi Robert Sentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine returned to a town where he nearly lost his life last year.

On August 13th, 2018 Bobi Wine’s driver identified as Yasin Kawuma was shot dead following chaos after it was alleged that supporters in the legislator’s People Power section had stoned a car in President Museveni’s convoy.

That was followed by several arrests that saw 35 people – including Hon. Kassiano Wadri whose rally produced the circumstances – later being produced and charged in court.

Bobi Wine was individually arrested and detained. He was allegedly tortured by security operatives and it sent the country into a wave of protests as his supporters demanded his release.

Flash-forward to 24th March 2019, Bobi Wine made his first return to the town that leaves so many memories. He was there for the thanksgiving ceremony of Arua Municipality MP Kassiano Wadri.

Several of his supporters turned up in large numbers, crowding the streets despite heavy deployment of police and the army.

Bobi addressed the excited crowds as he made his intentions towards the forthcoming 2021 general elections known.
