Ugandan athlete Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei won a gold medal at the 2019 World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark on Saturday.

Since his revelation, Cheptegei has been one of the huge prospects for Uganda, standing out as a very talented long-distance runner.

In the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, he won several hearts with two gold medals; in the 5000m and 10,000m races respectively.

With the win on Saturday, Cheptegei became the first Ugandan to win gold in the Men’s Senior Category at the IAAF World Cross Country Championship.

The 22-year-old beat fellow Ugandan teammate Jacob Kiplimo to win gold in just 31min 40sec on the 10.2km course.

Upon winning, he received several congratulatory messages including one from the president of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who maintained how Uganda is proud of both athletes.

Congratulations to Cheptegei!
