Three-time Grammy Award winner and singer, songwriter and social activist Angélique Kidjo is town ahead of Isaiah Katumwa’s Jazz concert.
The concert, which is slated for April 30th at the Kampala Serena Hotel, is an annual celebration of internationally acclaimed African jazz artists.
The concert coincides with the International World Jazz Day marked on April 30th in nearly 200 countries all over the world.
The legendary Beninese superstar singer and social activist is accompanied by Canadian saxophonist Darren Rahn.
Kidjo is a force to reckon with 13 albums to her name and a list of hit singles such as Agolo, Wombo Lombo and a rendition of Malaika, one of Kenya’s famous golden oldies by Fadhili Willams.
She fuses West African music traditions from Benin with elements of American R&B, funk and jazz, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America.
As a performer, her powerful vocals, stage presence, and fluency in multiple languages have won respect from her peers and expanded her following around the world.
