There is a new president at Luzira Prison. His name is BOBI WINE!
Just a few minutes after arriving at Luzira prison, Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine was voted as the new president for the inmates.
Monday was a normal day like any other as Luzira inmates organized to elect their next president. Little did they know that Bobi was soon to join them.
It must have been luck, coincidence, or destiny, that Bobi Wine’s name was included on the ballot just a few hours to the election after a petition from Bazito, one of his agents.
Bobi had just been arrested on his way to the CID headquarters and word came through that he was soon to become a fellow inmate. Everything happened so fast.
The singer arrived at Luzira just thirty minutes before voting commenced. He was then handed the chance to campaign for the votes before the inmates – only ten minutes were given to him.
Merely five minutes into his speech, several inmates were surrounding him, lifting him on their shoulders as they chanted, “president, president.”
Even his competitors, Bagendo and Kifeesi joined in the chants before voting was officially opened.
His nearest competitor was Dr. Bagendo and he has been in the facility for over five years. He came ahead of Kifeesi, the incumbent.
Having scored 90%, Bobi Wine won the election. Bagendo walked away with 9% as Kifeesi collected 1%.
There was chaos however at first as the head of the prisoners’ electoral commission, Katoto, declared that Kifeesi had won the election. He was roughed up and ordered to declare Bobi as the winner.
He had no option but to say out Bobi’s name and that sent the inmates into loud cheers after which they partied all night long.
