Ykee Benda traveled to Burundi on Friday to perform at an event on Saturday. That same day, the Mpaka Records welcomed his firstborn baby whom he named Donte Quain Tugume Muhagazi.
It so seems like he did not know much about the neighboring East African country and was ready to explore and understand more of it’s history, culture and lifestyle for the few days he was to spend there.
What better way to understand all the three than visiting the night hangouts in the city center? Off he went with his team and he found something interesting.
The ‘Singa’ singer was amused to find Ugandan music being played in the nightclubs. His own music and other songs by Vampino, Sheebah Karungi, Spice Diana, A Pass, Bebe Cool, John Blaq, among others were being played mostly.
He took the excitement to his social media and happily alerted his followers. He was however confused by how much of Ugandan music was being played than the local music there.
Should we say that Ugandan music is still dominating most parts of East Africa? That’s a story for another day.
