Sunday 30th June 2019 saw a very skillful and determined Uganda Cranes team lose to Egypt in the last Group A AFCON 2019 match. They however advanced to the round of 16 having clinched the second spot in the group.

Goals from Liverpool’s Mo Salah and Ahmed Elmohamady were enough to earn the hosts a win over the Cranes who impressed several fans from across the world with a wonderful display of exciting football.

Despite coming second best due to a well-taken freekick by Salah, Dennis Onyango matched his standards to keep out the speedy and skillful Pharaohs. He however sustained an injury and was substituted in the second half.

Twelfth Man: Uganda Cranes fans in Egypt

As the Cranes fought hard to find a goal in their match, the Red Devils of the Democratic Republic of Congo were busy thrashing the Warriors of Zimbabwe in a game that ended 0-4 in favor of DRC.

A win for DRC granted Uganda Cranes a chance into the knockout stage of the tournament, very much to the pleasure of several Ugandans including celebrities who added their voices in congratulating the team:

The Cranes are likely to face Senegal or Kenya next. We congratulate Uganda for advancing to the next stage and good luck in your next match.
