Tweeps might need to think twice before they tweet henceforth because there is a new sheriff in town. AIGP Asan Kasingye has been granted presidency of all Ugandans On Twitter (UOT).
Social Media in Uganda has become a big aspect of life for several Ugandans. It is almost a basic need of life with several Ugandans making their livelihood off the different social media apps.
One of the most used social media platforms in Uganda is Twitter, coming third only after Facebook and Pinterest according to stats taken from statcounter.com.
With data assessed between June 2018 to June 2019, 13.26% of social media users in Uganda use Twitter. Facebook takes the lead with 57.8% followed by Pinterest (23.73%). YouTube takes 4th with 3.7%, and Instagram settles for 5th with 0.68%.
For clarity of the matter, the most followed Ugandan on Twitter is the Head Of State, H.E. president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who boasts over 1.1 million followers on the app.
With all the above stats, the line is drawn in regard to how important Twitter is to Ugandans and hence requires direction which has previously been led by a one Mwebya Fred (@Ugaman01 on Twitter).
Through a voting process done on the app, the new president and vice president of the UOT were voted, with results going in favor of Asan Kasingye (@AKasingye) and Sandra Mwesiga (@Ugandan_Beauty) who took 61% and 47% of the votes respectively.
Asan Kasingye is the Assistant Inspector General of Police in Uganda and he has often emphasized the importance of social media in simplifying his work as a top leader on the security force.
He expressed his gratitude having been voted the new leader, thanking friends and praying for God’s guidance and wisdom to help him realize the dreams of the Ugandans On Twitter.
