When you talk about comedy in Uganda, there are a few names that will quickly come to your mind. Alex Muhangi is one of them because of the efforts he has invested in the fast developing industry.

He is the proprietor of Comedy Store UG which has provided a platform to several comedians in the country since 2016. It has also become a major performance ground for international comedians and artistes.

He reveals that his journey to comedy started way too early as a young child. He loved telling funny stories and his friends at campus loved it. That compelled him to take it on as a career later after attending auditions at Theater Labonita.

Today, he juggles several responsibilities as a comedian, show host, promoter, and businessman. He has a deep story and one of the major turning points in his journey is how he has shifted from venue to venue in pursuit of a suitable space for the Comedy Store.

Just when his Comedy Store dream had taken off at Diners Lounge, the managers of the bar decided that it was lucrative business which they could also venture in and he was stopped from holding the weekly show at the venue.

It’s at this point that he moved it to Club 400 in Bukoto which seemed a small space for his large crown. He later moved it to bigger space at the UMA Showgrounds in Lugogo which has become a fortress for all comedians and comedy lovers in the country.

The development in the comedy industry has also brought stiff competition which some critics translate as beef. Muhangi explains more about what he thinks of that as he also states that he is not complacent at all and yearns for more achievements.
