The nominations list of this year’s edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) was released on Wednesday evening and just as it was in the AFRIMMAs, Uganda has under-performed.

In 2018, we reported how the Ugandan music industry had shifted dominance from the males and unto the females as several women stepped up their gears with exceptional performance.

The AFRIMA 2019 nominations were announced at the World Media Conference in Lagos, Nigeria on Wednesday 14th August 2019

Some of those were Sheebah and Irene Namatovu who have registered nominations again in the AFRIMA 2019 regional category of Best Female Artiste in Eastern Africa.

Sheebah was nominated for her hit song titled ‘Wankona’ while Da Nu Eagles’ Irene Namatovu earned her nomination for her song ‘Tweyanze’.

Both artistes are returning after being nominated in the 2018 edition of the awards. In that year, Irene Namatovu actually won the award in the Best Artist In African Traditional category for her song Nsambira Nyuma Nga Janzi.

Male artistes in Uganda will live to fight another day after they missed out on nominations in the categories of Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa where they have in the past been recognized.

Tanzania dominated the category with four nominees. Kenya and Madagascar filled the other spots as Uganda was a no show.
