Since Friday last week, the name Ronald Mayinja has been resounding on social media after he embarrassed the president by performing his ‘Bizeemu’ song during Catherine Kusasira’s concert at Kampala Serena Hotel.
Consequently, he has appeared on several TV stations and other random interviews to explain why he decided to perform the political song yet he was aware of President Yoweri K. Museveni’s presence at the concert.
In his defense, Mayinja reveals that there was no better time and place to make his voice and message heard by the president than at the concert where the head of state had been invited as a chief guest.
‘Bizeemu’ is a song with lyrics which comprise of majorly political topics as Mayinja sings about how the things President Museveni went to the bush to fight against, including the nationwide killings, have returned to haunt his regime.
During an interview, the singer revealed that he is not afraid to lose his life if it’s what he has to sacrifice in speaking up against the oppression of the masses in Uganda.
Everyone needs to be brave. People fear death, several have called me saying that if it was Amin I would have already been dead but we’re all going to die at some point. The only difference is how we shall die.Ronald Mayinja
He reveals that several of his friends have already showed concern and advised him not to move alone henceforth because he is not safe anymore. However, he emphasizes that he’s not afraid to die.
I don’t fear death. When God sends you to do something, he gives you courage to face anything. I also don’t know where I get the courage but because of the prevailing situation (in the country), I’ve decided to speak for the many.Ronald Mayinja
