Over the weekend, the sixth edition of the All Africa Music Awards – AFRIMAs went down at Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria where several African musicians from various regions of the continent took part.

The event, that was hosted by Pearl Thusi and Eddie Kadi, saw several big-name musicians walk home with awards on the night but Uganda’s representatives returned empty-handed.

While speaking in an interview, singer Irene Namatovu of the Da Nu Eagles crew reasoned that she returned home empty-handed due to the stiff competition which she encountered in this year’s awards unlike last year.

The ‘Tweyanze’ singer stressed that she was pooled with the top artists who are heavyweights on the African continent including Diamond Platnumz, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, and Aminux. It was hard for her to win.

Irene Namatovu, however, disclosed that she was shocked that Diamond who was nominated in six categories didn’t manage to win any single award at the event.

In this year’s AFRIMA awards there was stiff competition in my pool because I was categorized with the likes of Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, and Diamond Platnumz. I’m still shocked that Diamond who was nominated in six categories didn’t win anything too.
